Modern Contract Chairs

Konstantin Grcic - Chair_one

November 29th, 2007

Just the latest feather on the cap, Konstantin Grcic has produced yet another masterpiece simply called Chair-one. As always, he imparts his omnipresent style and quirkiness to his work. His style seems to tread the fine line between ‘ art’ and ‘junk’ but he somehow always manages to stay on the right side of the line.

The seat itself is die-cast aluminium with no upholstery whatsoever. Just bare bums on cool metal. I wonder how comfortable this seats are but it certainly hits the sweet spot on the design end. The base in the typical Konstantin Grcic style is certainly unconventional. In fact this is the first time I’ve seen a concrete base on a movable seat. One must wonder what would happen in a typical bar-fight and the aftermath of thrown chairs. The damage will be pretty severe to both the chair and the ‘hittee’.

Nonetheless, if your looking for an unconventional selling point for your start up bistro, the Chair-one is a natural choice. Unlike most modern bistro chairs nowadays, maintenance is optional for this chair because of the very basic materials used. Just don’t have overly large people sit on them, it’ll look horrible if ‘flab’ were to be stuck in between the geometric openings  of the chair.
