The brain child of designer Hee-Woo Kim, the Takeoff Table is a completely new organism that takes on the guise of a simple metallic table. The simple exterior does not look astonishing, a plain industrial design with no bangs and whistles to show off. The beauty of his Hee-Woo Kim’s design is not the table per se but the concept behind it.
Hee-Woo Kim has completely reinvented the definition of a table with his great ideas. Previously, a table used to be regarded as something you put things on, or something which was nice to look at. However, this designer took on the view that a simple table had the power to change the mood, and this the Takeoff Table does.
Hidden beneath the seemingly normal black plastic layers is a powerful backlight that when lit, produces patterns that interest and intrigue. The plastic layers consist of 5 graphic patterns of colors which can be added and removed to create new patterns and colors.
Imagine the possibilities in the bar room replacing the most common piece of bar room furniture , the bar top. Brightly lit swirls and patterns adorn the bar top lighting up your Metropolitan to a clear translucent blue as your neighbour’s whisky changes into a funky green as the patterns move on.
Imagine a frosty clear night out under the stars. Snow flakes gently drifting down from above lightly frosting your wine as you toast the beautiful night in the great outdoors.
Gently pulsing lights form your single piece of outdoor bar furniture, the Takeoff Table provide just enough radiance as the colors are reflected all over you. The twinkling stars not overwhelmed by the excessive light begin finally to show their ethereal selves as the night goes on.
Think of a great hall with the Takeoff Table stretching from end to end. Where dignitaries gather and sit around the table combining the medieval concept of the banquet table with the new fashion of modern hotel chairs. And holographic images project from the table itself making projectors obsolete.
This is the promise of the Takeoff Table, the promise of the future.
