Bean Bag Chairs - Trendy or Pass??

July 24th, 2008

When I mention the words bean bag chair, I get a funny look and the question, “Are they back in style?” My response is “Absolutely, but not the way you remember”. Bean bag chairs have come a long way since they were popular in the 1970’s or from their origin for that matter.

Originating in the 1960’s by an Italian designer, bean bag chairs were soon mass produced. Although much of the basic design is the same, bean bag chairs have been improved considerably making them great competition for conventional furniture.

Design

Bean bag chairs have gone through some major design changes over the years. The standard bean shape still exists but there are many more shapes to choose from depending on your decorating needs. Bean bag chairs come in round shapes which make great pillows but offer somewhat less back support than the bean shaped ones. The pancake chairs are great because they make a terrific body pillow, allow room for two and due to their firmness, double as an ottoman or coffee table. You can also find loveseats and sofas in the bean bag style. (more…)

Examining The Different Types Of Electric Wheelchairs

July 23rd, 2008

You have always used water and detergent to wash your clothes. Then why would you suddenly shift from the conventional methods of getting rid of stains from your garments and use a dry method? Is the method really dry and does it really get rid of the stains?

It is believed that the invention of dry cleaning was the result of an accident. The story says that a petroleum-base fluid had accidentally spilled on greasy fabric. The fluid quickly evaporated, taking the stains with it thus giving rise to a new method of cleaning garments - dry cleaning.

Contrary to common belief, dry cleaning is not completely a ‘dry’ process. Dry cleaning process uses a cleaning fluid in which all garments are immersed and cleaned in a liquid solvent and not in water. The fact that there is no water is the reason why the process is termed ?dry cleaning?. It removes dirt and stains in a more effective way than water does. The process of dry cleaning involves pretreatment of stains or spots using special cleansing chemicals. The second step of cleaning begins as the garments are loaded into a machine. Throughout the cleaning process the fluid is filtered to ensure its clarity.

Buying furniture online is a fairly new experience for many people. Although some people may be wary of buying their outdoor furniture online, there are actually several benefits of online shopping. Buying furniture online is not that much different than shopping at your local furniture or outdoor store. However, it is extremely important know the Web sites where you will be shopping. Make sure you do your research on each site before placing an order for a piece of outdoor furniture. When placing an order for something as large and expense as a piece of furniture, you should check out each website?s shipping and return policies to check for any hidden fees that may be involved. Decorative Accessories and Accent Furniture

July 9th, 2008

Decorative accessories and accent furniture are truly about your own style. These are the pieces that tie your space together in whatever direction your going for. You can decorate a whole room around a favorite accessory or use accent accessories to add depth to an existing space. Wheather you have a large space or small you should never over accessorize, this will lead to a cluttered and incongruent look and your favorite pieces will probably get lost. Use an odd number of pieces when grouping on a table or mantle. And balance out a large piece like a vase or sculpture with three or five smaller pieces opposite your large piece. If you’ve developed a taste for say…the orient, don’t ditch all your favorite heirlooms and buy everything Asian.

Many times if you pick your favorite existing pieces and add a few “theme” pieces a steady and cohesive look will emerge in your space. Try using natural materials like pressed bamboo vases or parchment paper with your own antiques or special pieces you’ve cherished for years. Another way to add a bit of the exotic is by keeping your existing accessories, and adding a few well placed accent furnitures. This could be a beautiful African hand carved coffee table or an interesting rug or throw hung on a wall instead of placed on the floor. If you’ve found and or have a very special piece don’t be afraid to showcase it. Leave off other accessories and make sure it’s in a well lit area and is size proportioned to surrounding pieces.
